Kapalabhati, known as the shining skull breath, is renowned for its use of the samana breath. This breath benefits metabolism, transformation, and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual digestion. It involves more rapid yet controlled inhalations and exhalations.
Instructions:
· Sit comfortably with a straight spine, relaxed shoulders, and an unstrained neck.
· Close your eyes and take a deep breath in.
· As you exhale, forcefully contract your abdominal muscles to expel the air.
· Continue this process at a moderate pace.
Bhastrika means "bellows" because cooks use bellows to ignite the fire for cooking. This breath involves forceful inhalation and exhalation and is regarded as the most heating pranayama. It eliminates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual toxins during exhalation while bringing in prana-filled breath during inhalation.
Instructions:
This breathing practice sounds like having an asthmatic attack.
· Begin to breathe in and out of the nose, emphasizing the exhalation at first.
· Inhale to fill the lungs and open the chest, lift the chest, and expand the lungs.
· Forcefully exhale the air by actively compressing the lungs, pushing the air out through the nose, and gently rounding the torso forward to help contract the chest to expel as much air as possible.
