Guggulu (which means protecting from disease) is prized in Ayurveda for its deep penetrating action, detoxifying and rejuvenating properties, and scraping accumulated toxins from the body's channels. It is used with other herbs to create powerful and effective formulas known as Guggulus.
Guggul is the common name for the flowering “Mukul” myrrh tree and refers to the resinous substance formed from the sap produced by this tree, which is believed to have a potency that lasts up to 20 years.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, its tastes are sweet, pungent, bitter, and astringent with a heating nature. It balances and reduces the Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas but is renowned for Vata.
